Indian Government has initiated a drive to revamp the FCI or the Food Corporation of India. The plan for overhauling the state-run food grain procurement
agency aims at reducing the food-grain wastage and reign in the runaway food
grain inflation in the recent months and years. Food Corporation of India (FCI)
will soon be bifurcated into three divisions for handling procurement,
management and distribution systems. This revamp comes as Asia's third largest
economy is struggling for to tame near double-digit food inflation and will
directly affect the lower and middle income groups in India.
